New distribution center facilitates future growth for Domino’s

Domino’s has moved into a brand-new distribution center in Nieuwegein, the Netherlands. This new-build project was necessary to support the pizza chain’s continued growth in the Benelux region. Assisted by Groenewout, Domino’s succeeded in moving into the new distribution center on schedule, despite the extra challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Ronald Dekker from Domino’s comments: “This new building is exactly what we wished for.”

The old distribution center in Gorinchem had become too small for Domino’s. Expansion was impossible, so a new-build project was the only option to enable the international pizza chain to achieve its growth ambitions. Domino’s selected Nieuwegein as the new location. “We’d outgrown our old DC. Here, we’ve made sure that the new facility is big enough to enable us to serve all our outlets in the Benelux region successfully, both now and in the future,” says Ronald Dekker, Head of Brand Design Europe at Domino’s.

The company enlisted Groenewout’s help in late 2018 to conduct a study of the ideal logistics layout for the DC. Groenewout subsequently took care of managing the project and coordinating the contact between Domino’s on the one hand and the construction partners on the other. The construction team met up once every two weeks in order to discuss any necessary changes based on the customer’s wants and needs, and to support rapid decision-making. Despite the limited amount of preparation time, the tight deadline and the pandemic, the new DC was completed on schedule. Dekker is happy with the results of the project: “It’s exactly what we wished for.”
