Optimization of production planning
At their Novilon production site in Coevorden, Netherlands, Forbo intended to improve planning and scheduling. The objectives were to improve service levels and to minimize total relevant costs in production and inventory.
What2Store®, Groenewout’s planning and stock simulation tool, was used to determine the optimal stock level and optimal batch sizes, in relation to the desired service level. The model gave important insight in how to plan the factory closing period and could explain service level problems in the past. Also, several planning scenarios were analyzed to find improvements. This resulted in an optimal planning methodology. In addition, two operational planning tools were developed and implemented, for mid-term and for short-term planning. The parameters settings from the optimal planning methodology were incorporated in these tools.
