De Kweker

Cost savings up to 25% with optimal picking per product group

Description
Kweker is a wholesaler in food with customers in the catering industry & retail. Kweker is divided in two business units, Delivery and Self-Service.

Opportunities
Currently picking for delivery takes place at the same location as shopping of the self–service customers. Due to a lack of space and the suboptimal set-up of the logistic operation for delivery to customers, as well as the expected growth in delivery activities, the operation will be moved to a new existing warehouse location. Groenewout was asked to design an optimal logistic concept for this new location.

Solution
Based on the current situation and expectations for the future, a Greenfield solution for the new logistic operation was designed. Temperature requirements and storage volume per article-group were specified: ambient, cold and freezer.

Benefits

  • Savings on costs for direct personnel of 15-20% was realized; Extra potential savings by introduction of a new system of 5% was identified
  • For every product group Groenewout designed an optimal storage & picking solution
  • A total investment overview was made of the changes to the building as well as the investments in the logistic equipment.
