Bio-Rad
Lay-out design of facility in Paris
Description
Bio-Rad is a US based worldwide manufacturer of life science products and clinical diagnostics. The European supply chain moved from a regional set up to a European set up.
Opportunities
After the distribution network study, Bio-Rad decided to implement a European supply chain with one ELC and multiple satellites. The ELC will be based in France, near Paris. An efficient design of this new warehouse was needed to incorporate all new processes from the new European supply chain set up as well as handle the future growth.
Solution
A feasibility study was conducted and showed that real opportunities existed to handle future flows in a new warehouse concept. A new logistic concept was defined that provided in the following:
- A change in the current way of working will be able to handle flows more efficiently and more flexible
- The current working processes are applicable in the new concept, to help in a smooth move to the new warehouse.
Benefits
- Efficient and clear lay-out and working processes
- The logistic concept enabled to handle future flows until 2010 as well as current flows in current working processes
- The concept enabled to do phased investments.
